What is Environmental Criminal Law
Environmental Criminal Law is meant to protect nature and the environment. In particular, the pollution of waters, the ground and the air can entail criminal sanctions. Unauthorised waste management or the handling of hazardous substances can also incur a penalty. In addition to the criminal offences included in the German Criminal Code (Strafgesetzbuch – StGB), further criminal offences and misdemeanours are included in laws outside of the Criminal Code, i.e. special environmental laws.
